The University of Akron offers four options within the degree Computer Information Systems:

CIS – Cybersecurity option

Cybersecurity professionals help organizations protect their data, computers and networks from an array of threats. Learn more. See the recommended course sequence.

CIS – Digital Forensics Technology option

Professionals in this field may obtain and search computers and electronic records for evidence related to a case. They work as law enforcement professionals, computer forensic specialists, data security analysts, systems security administrators, and network security administrators in government, business, information technology and other industries.

CIS – Networking option

Demand for computer networking experts is high for those with the right skills and experience. We offer the strong technical, teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills you will need to rise in this fast-growing field. Networking professionals help organizations design, maintain and secure internal and external networks. The networks connect computers, software, smart devices and more. In our program, you will gain hands-on and real-world experience as you design, administer and troubleshoot local and wide-area networks. There are multiple career opportunities to students with this degree, from network administrator, security analyst, consultant, trainer and network architect.

CIS – Programming option

Graduates with this degree serve as programmer/analysts, software developers, database administrators and web developers in government, business, information technology and other industries.
