Overview
The Drama programme at the University of Oklahoma provides a rigorous conservatory-style environment within a prestigious liberal arts setting. Students benefit from professional training delivered by a faculty of distinguished theatre artists who maintain active careers as directors, actors, and designers in the global industry.
As the second oldest institution of its kind in the nation, the school offers a performance-centred curriculum that leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts. The department is recognised for its excellence, recently being named one of the top ten theatre design and technology programmes in the country. Students have the unique opportunity to collaborate across the College of Fine Arts, working on dance, opera, and musical theatre productions.
Why Drama at the University of Oklahoma?
The institution boasts five fully equipped performance spaces, including the 600-seat Elsie C. Brackett Theatre and the historic European-style Holmberg Hall. These facilities allow students to practice their craft in professional-grade environments. The school consistently earns top honours at the National Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, reflecting its high academic and artistic standards.
Students gain significant industry exposure through senior showcases held in major cultural hubs such as New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Design and production students also present their portfolios at national conferences. Furthermore, the university offers international study opportunities through the OU in Arezzo programme, allowing students to explore their discipline in a global context.
