Overview
In all degrees students can focus on a targeted range of specializations in performance, improvisation, composition, sound design, film scoring, music theatre and entrepreneurship and more. Individual mentoring experiences are a particular focus of the curriculum.
Music majors from University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) have the opportunity to work with renowned visiting guest artists every semester and perform alongside faculty in the Peak FreQuency Creative Arts Ensemble. There are many opportunities to collaborate with Dance, Film Studies, Museum Studies & Gallery Practice, Theatre, Visual Arts and more.
Students can reach their highest potential as performers through the scholarship-driven Chamber Music program that includes, among others, an honors brass and woodwind quintet, string quartet, jazz combo, vocal groups as well as any group of instruments or music-makers. Other ensembles include Jazz and Improvisation, Electroacoustic, Scholarship Mountain Lion Athletic Band, VAPA Vocal, University Choir, Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, Music Theatre, and THEATREWORKS Student Productions.

COMPOSITION AND SOUND DESIGN (CSD):
This track connects traditional western composition, contemporary and experimental music, jazz and improvisation, computer music, world and non-western traditions with interdisciplinary arenas of sound art and sound design in multimedia, installation, video, theatre and film scoring.
CREATIVE MUSIC PRACTICE, PERFORMANCE AND TECHNOLOGY (CMP):
This track identifies the performer/creative artist as a major paradigm in our musical culture. While focused on modern Chamber Music, jazz, vocal music, and popular music traditions, musicians in this track is well-suited for instruments not usually represented in college music degrees - non-western instruments, rap & hip-hop, DJ, laptop culture, creative musicians of all kinds.
Students in the CMP track will embark on a comprehensive curriculum and rigorous training on their instruments/voice, to develop individual artistic directions in performance, composition and improvisation. Our students become top-flight creators and performers with the tools to wield their way into today's complex music and arts world.
