Overview
History students know that to understand the present, one needs explore the past. In that effort, our students exercise their skills in critical thinking, conducting research, and crafting compelling arguments in the courses the Department offers that span centuries and encompass the globe.
Students of the History (Secondary Education - Teacher Certification in History, Grades 7-12 (with Double Major in B.A. Education)) program from Texas State University are encouraged to reflect not simply on their career goals, but also on what type of persons they want to become.
General Requirements
- The general education core curriculum courses are listed in the degree plan below along with the statewide component code number. The History courses HIST 2327, HIST 2328, HIST 2381, and HIST 2382 are for general education core curriculum credit only and are not allowed for the major in History.
- In addition to the general education core curriculum requirements, the Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) requires three additional hours of English literature, three additional hours of math/science/logic/computer science courses, six hours of 2000-level modern language courses, and a minor. For this program, the additional literature course may be satisfied by selecting a sophomore literature course for the 040 component of the core curriculum and the second major in Education fulfills the minor requirement.

General requirements
- All students pursuing teacher certification must apply and be accepted to the Office of Educator Preparation.
- You must apply for admission online using through ApplyTexas or Coalition for College (we will not accept mail-in forms).
- The Office of Undergraduate Admissions charges a nonrefundable application fee of $90.
- You must submit full transcripts (records of ALL courses taken and marks earned for each semester of both secondary school and college), as well as graduation or school-leaving exam results.
- Have the testing service send your scores directly to Texas State University. English proficiency tests will need to be mailed by the testing service.
