Overview

Same as the "Single Field" degree, but students will also be certified in a second teaching field of their choosing. This Dance - Dual Teaching Certifications degree from Texas State University is time intensive, and has very little room for electives. Students must have and maintain a 2.75 GPA.

Students will focus on teaching methods/philosophies and receive "hands on" experience with teaching. Students are required to take Curriculum courses and be a Student Teacher in a public school during their senior year. Students must audition for admittance into the program. Students must have and maintain a 2.75 GPA.

General Requirements

The general education core curriculum courses are listed in the degree plan below along with the statewide component code number. See the General Education Core Curriculum section of this catalog for the Texas State requirements and options in the core curriculum, including Honors courses.
Teacher certification students must maintain an overall GPA of 2.75, a major GPA of 2.75, and a GPA of 2.75 in all required education courses. Students who fail to do so will be advised into another program.
In addition to the major requirements, students must also complete 21 hours of professional sequence courses through the College of Education. All coursework must be completed prior to EDST 4681.
Summer course work may be need to complete the degree in a timely manner.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires multiple background checks for progression through the Educator Preparation Program. Based on information recorded in your criminal history, you may be ineligible for issuance of a teaching certificate upon completion of the Educator Preparation Program. If you have a criminal history, you may obtain a Preliminary Criminal History Evaluation from TEA.

General requirements

Admission into the BFA in Dance with Teacher Certification in Dance is based on an audition in either the fall or spring semester prior to the year of admittance. Students will be expected to maintain appropriate artistic and academic standards at the discretion of the Dance faculty.
All students pursuing teacher certification must apply and be accepted to the Office of Educator Preparation.
Skill level will be evaluated by faculty to determine course placement in ballet, jazz, hip hop, and modern/contemporary technique classes.
