Overview

During the four year curriculum, students experience training in various acting techniques and disciplines, in-depth dramatic study classes, as well as technical theatre skills and tools.

The department offers a variety of theatrical productions year-round where our students can get performance experience on stage, and hands-on experience backstage.

Key Features

In the liberal arts tradition, the Theatre degree from Florida Atlantic University provides students with a broad range of valuable skills.

Through voice, movement, and dance classes, students learn to control their voice’s pitch, projection, breathing, and articulation. Their dance and movement classes teach them to become poised, self-assured, natural, and expressive onstage.

FAU produces four Main Stage productions and one BrandStar Studio production during the school year, and two main stage productions every summer. The acting students have multiple opportunities to perform in plays as well as musicals.

Additionally, our professional resident theatre company,Theatre Lab, offers a variety of performance and backstage opportunities for our students in their new work development workshops, their Hecksher Theatre for Families production, and their three Main Stage productions.

The BA General Studies majors are encouraged to audition for all Departmental productions. If cast, they perform alongside BFA and MFA acting candidates.
