The curriculum is designed to foster advanced analytical and writing skills that are highly valued in the modern professional landscape. Why Art History at the University of Denver?
The university provides an exceptional environment for art historians due to its strong partnerships with major cultural institutions. Students frequently collaborate on professional projects at the Denver Art Museum, the Clyfford Still Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. These connections offer invaluable hands-on experience within the industry.
On-campus facilities further enhance the learning experience through the Vicki Myhren Gallery and the Madden Museum of Fine Art. These spaces serve as active laboratories where students can apply theoretical knowledge to real-world gallery management and curation. The department also hosts an annual Student Art History Symposium to showcase undergraduate research.
Academic excellence is prioritised through a structured pathway that includes both art history and studio art components. This dual approach ensures that graduates understand both the historical context and the technical creation of art. Students are encouraged to build professional networks by engaging with internationally renowned artists hosted by the School of Art and Art History.
