Why Scandinavian at the University of Oregon?
The programme is part of the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages, benefiting from significant institutional investment and a focus on global problem-solving. Students learn from expert faculty whose research interests span folklore, fantasy, gender studies, and Nordic cinema. This expertise informs a curriculum that is both rigorous and supportive.
Experiential learning is a cornerstone of the department, with access to dozens of study abroad programmes across Scandinavia. Partnerships with institutions in Copenhagen, Uppsala, and beyond allow students to accelerate their language skills in real-world settings. These international opportunities help students build strong professional networks and cultural competency.
The university provides dedicated academic advisors to help students plan their course of study and explore scholarship opportunities. Undergraduate majors can apply for specific departmental funding to support their education.
