Key facts

San Diego State University's Department of Aerospace Engineering curriculum is geared towards the design of a vehicle capable of transportation through the atmosphere and space, on land and in the sea, and provides coursework in the major sub-disciplines of aerodynamics, structures, flight mechanics, stability and control, propulsion and design.

A unique feature of the program is its culmination in two group design experiences in the senior year, the conceptual design of an aerospace vehicle in AE460 and the ability to design, build and test an aerospace project in AE403. The AE faculty through AE403 provides several opportunities for undergraduate student research. The education of our students is also enhanced through participation in active and highly visible extracurricular activities including the student chapter of the AIAA, the DBF (Design, Build, Fly) team, and the Rocket Project. The DBF team placed second in the 2013 international AIAA-sponsored competition.
