Overview

The Computer Science program of the University at Buffalo reduces by one year the usual pattern of a four-year undergraduate degree and a two-year MBA program. The CS BS/MBA program at UB provides a solid foundation in both computer science and business administration. From the computer science side, students will learn about software development, computer science theory, and computer systems. Students will have the flexibility to specialize in areas such as machine learning, robotics, databases, data mining, distributed systems, networking, data intensive computing, and computer architecture. From the business administration side, students will learn about accounting and financial analysis, marketing, business strategies, business economics, etc.

Program Learning Outcomes

The curriculum provides opportunities for students to develop the following knowledge, skills, and behaviors by the time of graduation:

Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.

Design, implement and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program's discipline.

Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.

Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.

Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program's discipline.

Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.

The MBA component of the curriculum is designed so that students will:

Develop knowledge and skills essential for effective management.

Be able to analyze complex information in order to make informed, ethical decisions with the consideration of various stakeholders.

Be effective team members, will develop essential communication skills, and will develop cultural competence for a global environment.

Admission to UB’s freshman class is selective and is based in part on the quality of your secondary school academic record and the number of spaces available in the class

You should feel confident applying to UB if you have an above-average academic record and have taken challenging courses in high school to help prepare you to be successful at university

UB uses a 4.0 grading scale and we expect students applying here to have the equivalent of a 3.0 on that scale. That is the same as a grade of B or 83 on a 100-point scale
