Overview
University of Massachusetts Boston offers programs leading to a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mathematics or to a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Mathematics with the following concentrations:
- Applied and Pure Mathematics (BS)
- Computational Mathematics (BS)
- Mathematics for Teaching (BA)
It also offers an option to earn General BS or General BA degrees in Mathematics for those students who need flexibility in their course work like double majors, major/minor students and transfer students. Students who want to pursue one of these options should get an approval from the department first. A
Mathematics Minor is also available. For students interested in teaching, the College of Education and Human Development offers a Master's of Education Degree for Professional Licensure in Secondary Mathematics.

- Showing an appreciation for and basic familiarity with major mathematical structures and concepts and their uses, e.g. vector spaces, linear and non-linear maps, groups, rings, fields, topologies, continuity, completeness, convergence, limits, sets and cardinals, logic, probabilities, independence, laws of large numbers, regression, approximation, numerics, dimension, measure, calculus and differential equations, curves and surfaces, etc.
