Overview

The Classics and Religious Studies Department at University of Massachusetts Boston offers undergraduate programs in Classical Studies and Classical Languages, and Religious Studies as well as several graduate degrees designed to prepare Latin teachers for secondary school teaching in Massachusetts, or anywhere in the U.S.

In this program, you will:

Take an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the classical world that combines the study of literature, history, philosophy, art, and archaeology to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the ancient Mediterranean world
Engage with complex ideas and texts, and develop your own ideas and perspectives on the classical world and its relevance to contemporary issues
Hone your communication and research skills, emerging with the tools you need to effectively present your ideas and research findings in both written and oral formats

Key Features

Undergraduate students majoring in Classical Studies examine the civilizations of Greece and Rome through a curriculum based mainly on works read in English translation.

Courses in classical studies (designated CLSICS 281, etc.) require no knowledge of Greek or Latin.
