Environmental engineering at the UA revolves around developing sustainable systems to protect, clean up, recycle and reuse the world’s natural resources. The program focuses on bioremediation of air and water pollution, wastewater treatment, Superfund site cleanup, and management of hazardous chemicals.

Environmental engineers develop methods for clean manufacturing, wastewater treatment and water purification, alternative energy, and sustainable building. Students earning their degree in Environmental Engineering at The University of Arizona work under the umbrella of the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Department, gaining in-depth knowledge of process engineering for transforming waste into useful products and cleaning up contaminants in soil and groundwater.
