Suffolk University underscores the importance of real-world experience. In addition to your coursework, as a junior and senior you'll have the chance to engage in practicums to conduct fieldwork and help underserved segments of the population. Our well-connected faculty help students obtain internships at a wide range of Boston-area sites, including local courts, youth services centers, schools, law firms, hospitals, crisis centers, social service providers, and shelters.

We are all exposed to a mass culture that demeans communities of color, immigrants, poor families, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others. Rather than waiting for crises to occur, sociologists seek to understand, and change, the social forces that lead to systematic and interpersonal oppression. With this major, you can help make this change, too.

Advancing Your Studies

Sociology students with an excellent academic track record are eligible to to earn complete their undergraduate and graduate coursework at a faster rate in Suffolk's Accelerated Bachelor's/Master's Degree Crime & Justice Studies (MSCJS) Program. Students in this program may substitute two graduate-level classes for undergraduate courses. By finishing both degrees in five years, you'll save both time and tuition.
