About

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University provides classroom instruction and hands-on participation in the performance and production aspects of theatre, dance, film, television and web video.

Overview

All theatre majors take a sixteen hour core curriculum in the discipline, and then specialize in acting, technical production, performance and production, musical theatre, film, or teacher certification. Graduates work as teachers, actors, designers, writers, producers, directors, and technicians. Some pursue advanced degrees, receiving additional training for a professional career or preparing to teach at the college or university level.

Dance at Texas State University prepares professional performers and choreographers and certifies teachers for the public schools. Students explore multiple genres of dance, learning to contextualize theory and practice in educational, professional, and community settings.

Careers

Graduates work in public and private schools, private studios, and professional dance groups. Some have gone on to pursue advanced degrees, receiving additional training for the profession or preparing to teach at the college or university level.
