Some of the opportunities our majors enjoy include learning abroad, international English honor societies, editing experience, internships in a variety of writing and communication fields, paid teaching internships, paid writing-tutor training and experience, travel to academic conferences and workshops, writing retreats at the SUU Mountain Center, and creative readings at the Southern Utah Museum of Art.
These experiences, paired with small class sizes and individual faculty mentorship, help our majors develop skills in high demand by a range of employers and graduate programs, such as critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, project management and teamwork, literary analysis, technical and design skills, information literacy, teaching and instruction, and cross-disciplinary research skills. Furthermore, majors of the English - Education program from Southern Utah University can supplement their degree with a number of minors or certificates, including entrepreneurship, history, information systems, film studies, and graphic design among others.
