Overview

The Dental Hygiene Program is a 2-year program consisting of four 16 week semesters with a 5 week summer term followed by a 2 week externship.

Classes are only offered through the Flagstaff Mountain Campus and the program starts every Fall. Application and admittance to the Dental Hygiene Program is required in addition to Northern Arizona University Acceptance.

Students are required to learn and practice clinical skills on each other throughout the program. This means that all students must participate as both a student clinician and as a patient. The procedures students will be performing and being subjected to include: reviewing medical and dental histories, taking vital signs, practicing instrumentation, giving oral local anesthetic injections, placing sealants when indicated and taking radiographs.

You’ll be educated in well-equipped, cutting-edge clinical facility. An 18-chair clinic and dental laboratory are used to develop and practice dental hygiene procedures, using state of the art dental equipment, including Velscope, Spectra, and Intraoral camera. Radiographic technique is taught in a 5-chair facility, which includes a panoramic x-ray machine, and digital x-ray equipment. The comfortably-furnished student seminar/computer center has a beautiful view of the San Francisco Peaks and is a pleasant place to access web courses and study between classes.
