Overview
The Athletic Training course from Marist University mission is to provide students, within a liberal-arts framework, with the strong scientific foundation and extensive practical experience they need to become certified Athletic Trainers (ATC).
The Programme mission is accomplished by teaching and providing students with the opportunity to develop competencies in the five domains of athletic training defined by the Board of Certification (BOC) Practice Analysis. The students master these competencies through didactic, laboratory, and clinical experiences while utilizing evidence-based practices. Upon completing all programme requirements and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, students are eligible for certification by the BOC and state licensure.
Master's Degree Transition Status:
The Athletic Training Strategic Alliance (four leading organizations in the Athletic Training profession) announced their decision to require the professional degree in athletic training be obtained at the master's degree level. To remain in compliance with the CAATE, baccalaureate programmes may not admit, enroll, or matriculate students into the athletic training programme after the start of the fall term 2022. Thus, Marist University will no longer accept students into the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree programme following the fall 2022 semester. Students entering Marist in Fall 2022 or earlier will still be able to earn a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree, and per CAATE standards will be eligible for the national certification exam (BOC) upon graduation from the programme.
Marist University has decided to transition to the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) degree, as now required by the CAATE. At this juncture, we anticipate enrolling our first MSAT cohort in the summer of 2024. Students wanting to pursue a graduate degree in Athletic Training are encouraged to major in Biology with a Human Biology concentration.Athletic Training programme is offered at Marist University .
