About

The Biomedical Science program offered by the University of Central Florida can prepare students for schools of medicine, dentistry, veterinary, pharmacy, optometry, podiatry, chiropractic practice, or to train to be a physician assistant. The Bachelor’s of Science in Biomedical Sciences meets all the admission requirements for medical/health professional schools and also prepares students for entry into the technical work force in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry, as well as to support academic research endeavors in federally funded research programs.

The undergraduate program offers courses in the biomedical sciences, including anatomy, molecular biology, cell biology, neurobiology, physiology, microbiology, and immunology. There are approximately 3,000 students enrolled in the department’s undergraduate major in Biomedical Sciences. In addition, we serve UCF students in a variety of other fields. Last year over 14,000 UCF students were enrolled in our courses. Students may enrich their education by participating in one of several student organizations or by working with faculty on directed research. The diverse research interests of the faculty in the department create a very rich environment for interdisciplinary research. Our faculty has expertise in a wide range of biomedical science specialties, including microbiology, immunology, infectious disease, cardiovascular biology, neurobiology, molecular biology, molecular parasitology, biotechnology, cancer biology, and nanoscience.
