German majors at Boise State University can take a wide variety of literature and culture classes and also have the opportunity to study in Saarbrücken and Heidelberg, Germany, through Boise State's direct exchange program, which allows students to enroll as full-time visiting students at a university abroad while only paying Boise State tuition.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Interpersonal communication: Negotiate meaning to share information, reactions, feelings, and opinions as well as to defend an idea in written, oral and/or multimodal communication in German.
- Interpretive listening: Analyze, assess, and evaluate what is being heard on a variety of topics authentic to the German-speaking culture(s) in German.
- Interpretive reading: Understand, interpret and analyze a variety of texts authentic to the culture(s) in German.
- Presentational communication: Present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, narrate and/or defend a variety of topics in [target content area] through written, oral and/or multimodal communication in German.
- Intercultural Awareness: Identify, investigate and explain products and practices in Germanic cultures to compare/contrast, evaluate, and reflect on cultural perspectives associated with the primary language (L1) and the German language (L2).
- Critical Analysis: Engage in effective critical inquiry by identifying and interpreting a diverse body of culturally specific works and scholarly sources, and producing clear, argumentative discourse in German that formulates original perspectives and positions.
