All courses are taught by full-time faculty members, whose research projects include the harnessing of bacteria to make useful chemicals, cancer research, and the modeling of biological membranes.

About the program

State-of-the-art equipment includes a Silicon Graphics workstation for molecular modeling; superconducting Fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer; Fourier transform infrared spectrometer; high-performance liquid chromatograph; Raman laser spectrometer; gel electrophoreses; several spectrophotometers including a diode array instrument and a microplate reader; several refrigerated centrifuges; fluorescence polarization spectrometer; and protein sequencer.

Visiting scientists present seminars on their research nearly every week. Many of these speakers are distinguished alumni who are eager to help students advance in their fields.

A cooperative education program combines semesters in research at a professional work site with other semesters of traditional academic studies on campus.

Valpo’s close proximity to Chicago offers a variety of outstanding internship opportunities.
