Overview

Medical imaging technologists are allied health professionals who have expertise in the operation of imaging equipment and the preparation of patients for various diagnostic and treatment procedures. Practice specialties may include competencies in radiography, nuclear medicine, sonography, radiation therapy, cardiovascular technology, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, positron emission tomography, and mammography.

The time spent in each will depend on which clinical option(s) is/are selected. This Medical Imaging degree program from the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania is not open to transfer students.

Medical Imaging Options

At Bloomsburg, you'll take core biology, physics, and math courses; they also complete all university general education requirements. If you elect short clinical programs you'll take 15 additional credits in one of the emphasis areas — science or management. Admission into clinical programs is not automatic or guaranteed; outstanding academic achievement, well-developed interpersonal skills, and a good understanding of the profession are required. Shadowing and internship experience in the field and exposure to clinical health settings are helpful for admission to clinical programs.
