Overview

Geospatial technologies for the Geospatial and Environmental Informatics program at Auburn University will give you the ability to synthesize and critique the impact and how we perceive the earth's environment using location-based services, global positioning systems (GPS), geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing (RS), virtual globes, and web-based mapping.

They range from digital maps in vehicles to the management tools of natural landscapes and city infrastructure. The area of Geospatial and Environmental Informatics brings information technology, spatial science, data analysis, natural resources and ecological modeling together and enables us to apply them for sustainable management of natural resources.

Learning Objectives:

Technical skills in geospatial database design and analysis and the arrangement of things in space.
Ability to read, interpret, and generate maps and other geographic representations and extract, analyze, and present information from a spatial perspective.
Ability to think in spatial terms to explain what has occurred in the past as well as using geographic principles to understand the present and plan for the future.
Ability to apply critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills to solve problems in a professional setting.
