Graduates with a major in Accounting at Fairmont State University will be to:

  • Demonstrate a foundation of business knowledge, team dynamics, and technical skills that supports and facilitates lifelong professional development.

  • Use clear and concise communication (oral, written, and electronic) to convey relevant financial and non-financial information to target audiences so that decision makers can formulate informed decisions and take action.

Fairmont State Accounting graduates are prepared for careers in public, industrial, and governmental accounting in positions.  Accounting majors become general accountants, account managers, staff accountants in public accounting, internal auditors, industrial accountants, financial analysts and Internal Revenue agents.  Some untraditional careers include:

General Requirements

  • Applicant must have completed a satisfactory program of secondary school studies equivalent to an American high school. 
  • An officially certified English translation of high school transcripts or college transcripts, if applicable, must accompany applications. 
  • In cases where high school graduation is expected after the application deadline for admission, acceptance at Fairmont State would be given to the prospective student with the understanding that the student successfully complete the necessary academic requirements and submit proof of graduation. Photo copies will not be accepted.
