Biopsychology from Oglethorpe University encourages you to explore the intricacies of the human brain and the complexities of human experience.

Biopsychology from Oglethorpe University is based on the belief that Biopsychology is an interdisciplinary program that draws on biology, chemistry, and psychology to offer new insights into the science of the brain.

As a biopsychology student, you’ll explore the complex relationship between the brain and behavior. You’ll delve into the intricacies of brain circuitry, learning how neurons and neurotransmitters contribute to normal and abnormal behavior. With this strong foundation, you can begin pursuing expertise in a variety of areas – studying the brain from a chemical, cellular, genetic, developmental, behavioral, cognitive, or social behavior perspective.

At Oglethorpe, all biopsychology students complete a two-course sequence in psychological statistics and research methods. With these valuable skills under your belt, you’ll be highly qualified for a career – or additional study – in a research-based field.

You’ll also have the opportunity to take a course in advanced research methods, where you’ll design and carry out your own study. It’s the perfect way to get some hands-on experience and work one-on-one with an experienced faculty member as your mentor, and maybe even present your project at a professional conference.
