It’s a complicated and amazing world out there! This International Relations and Diplomacy major from Illinois Dominican University will prepare you to thrive in today’s global economic and political environment and to serve the world with intelligence, compassion and competence.

Interdependence is the new way of the world. More than ever before, nations rely on one another for economic success, military protection and ecological survival. This means that governments and corporations in the U.S. and abroad increasingly need professionals who can cross cultural boundaries.

Our graduates serve internationally and domestically in a wide range of organizations and agencies in both the public and private sectors, including the U.S. State Department, the World Bank, CARE, the Peace Corps, and the Commission for Environmental Cooperation. They’ve learned to make evidence-based decisions, to act thoughtfully as citizens, and to participate productively in the global economy.

In small classes, you’ll work side by side with experts in the field. You’ll study international politics, master a second language, and learn the principles of diplomacy and foreign policy. Our internships will take you inside international organizations in Chicago, Washington and beyond.

Dominican will enable you to earn a variety of professional advantages early and often. We strongly recommend that you complete an internship with international agencies in Washington, D.C., and we’ll help you land one.

The university’s relationship with the Washington Internship Institute will enable you to spend a full semester learning hands-on in the nation’s capital.
