Overview

You’ll learn from expert musicians, producers, and engineers — and you’ll develop your skills in a topline facility that functions like a commercial studio.

Personalize Your Degree

The Music Technology curriculum at the University of Saint Francis offers maximum flexibility and opportunity. You’ll work closely with an advisor to tailor your degree to match your interests and goals. All students start with core courses in Music Theory, Ear Training, and Piano Skills. From there, you will participate in an ensemble and select up to three of the following concentrations:

  • Recording, Engineering and Production: Have you ever wanted to work in a recording studio?  Have you ever wanted to produce music? Learn the necessary skills required to produce, engineer, and record music.  Students will have hand-on experience in multiple state-of-the professional studios.  Learn how to interact and produce music from different genres and styles, and how to capture the best performances from your talent to prepare for a career as an audio engineer, music producer, or mastering engineer.
  • Music Industry: Learn just how the music industry operates. Explore copyright, royalties, event production, while learning how the record label, concert and touring business work.  Develop your own digital campaigns and learn how to leverage those skills into the business, management, and promotional side of the industry.
  • Post Production and Sound Design: Apply audio technology into the exciting world of Post Production and Sound Design.  Create engaging music scores, develop exciting sound design, foley and audio production and mixing  for film, TV, and Video Games.  Understand the technologies and requirements associated with broadcast.  Explore new technologies that incorporate multi-channel audio (surround sound) and emerging technologies associated with immersive 360 audio and VR.
  • Live Sound and Event Production: Gain skills and experience in live sound reinforcement, house of worship sound support, event planning, stagecraft and more.  Students in this concentration have the ability to shadow multiple live music festivals and concerts.  Students also utilize our historic USF Robert Goldstine Performing Arts Center that seats over 2000 people, as well as many other venues and environments.
  • Contemporary Artist Development and Musicianship:  Are you an artist desiring to improve your craft and production?  Learn important skill sets that will improve your songwriting and understanding of the music industry.  Students take a focused look at their own creative work and the development and utilization of their own branding strategies. You will learn strategies surrounding public relations and other essential skills, both production and musical, that are necessary in today’s unique musical landscape.
