The Department’s goals are related to supporting the University’s mission “to empower and promote the upward mobility of students through quality academic programs and provide students with the knowledge & skills to advance in their fields”.

The Department of Natural Sciences from Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) focuses on providing a high-quality education with an enhanced undergraduate experience and creating career development opportunities for students. As a result, biology and mathematics graduates will have a strong foundation and excellent skills to successfully compete in the diverse domestic/global job market or complete graduate/professional studies at major academic institutions.

Graduates with Natural Sciences from Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) will be able to:

understand the nature of the universe and the world around them;

have well-balanced training in the application of scientific method, techniques, and mathematics to solve contemporary problems;

be prepared for admission to schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, forensic science, and engineering, as well as graduate schools in the sciences and engineering.
