From this dynamic learning experience students gather a range of skills for use in analyzing and predicting human behavior in group settings, such as the family, religious organizations, or entire societies. Along the way students learn about themselves and their culture.
The Westminster College New Wilmington’s Sociology curriculum also introduces students to multicultural and global perspectives that they may otherwise lack. Since sociology is both a scientific and humanistic field, its subject is central to Westminster’s liberal arts curriculum. The emphasis throughout the four-year degree is on the application of sociology, a very theoretical field, to real-world problems. With this in mind, students complete required internships. Recent placements have been with agencies working on adoption and children and youth services, with the elderly, and with emergency and disaster assistance.
