Program Description

The Engineering and Applied Science program at California Institute of Technology - Caltech offers students the opportunity to study in a wide variety of areas of sciences and technology, including concentrations in computation and neural systems, and material science. In addition, the option offers students the possibility of designing a customized course of study that has breadth, depth, and rigor similar to the concentrations above.

The goal of the option is to combine individual depth in a particular engineering specialty and a strong background in the basic and engineering sciences, with laboratory and design, culminating in a capstone design experience. It strives to develop professional independence, creativity, leadership, and the capacity for continuing professional and intellectual growth.

General requirements

Regardless of your curriculum, we expect you to take the following classes in high school:

4 years of math, including 1 year of calculus (For students in the IB curriculum, this equates to taking 2 years of Higher Level Math)

1 year of chemistry

1 year of physics, preferably calculus-based, though not required

Four years of high school infers that you have had 12 years of education. As long as you meet our academic requirements within your country's curriculum, we will consider your application.

$75 application fee or fee waiver

School Report: This is a document that your high school college counselor will send to Caltech that provides context about your school

Teacher evaluations

Official transcripts from your secondary school (or the international curriculum equivalent)

If you have taken college classes while in high school, please provide the college transcript, as well.
