Overview

As a Spanish major at Meredith College, you’ll have ample opportunities to put what you’re learning to use in a real-world context. All Spanish majors are required to participate in community-based learning, which allows you to practice your Spanish and deepen your learning through experiences with partner agencies.

You can also intern with local agencies, businesses, or nonprofits. And, of course, if you’re pursuing licensure to teach Spanish, you’ll complete a field placement as a student teacher.

Careers

A Spanish major/minor is a valuable addition to students coming from any number of disciplines/career paths, including pre-med, pre-law, dentistry, business and education. Those who have graduated from Meredith with a major in Spanish in recent years have gone on to graduate school, immediate employment, and other opportunities.

Professional positions held and graduate programs attended by recent graduates of Meredith’s Spanish program include pursuing an M.A. in Spanish literature at University of Virginia and becoming a Spanish teacher at Gates County High School.

Complete fully and return the Meredith College application for admission, along with the $40 application fee.

Have the appropriate school official(s) forward an official copy of the secondary-school record, complete with a listing of courses taken, grades obtained, credit received and rank in class; college or university transcript(s) if the student has taken any advanced work

If the student’s native language or primary language of instruction is English, take the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) of The College Board.

Send a school official recommendation and an academic teacher recommendation.

Students who are submitting university transcripts must also provide an independent course-by-course evaluation
