Methods classes, teaching in Wake County Schools, and opportunities to work with organizations such as the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra prepare you to teach all areas of music at any grade level.

The K-12 Music Education teacher licensure program offered by Meredith College provides learning experiences for graduates to meet the needs, capabilities, and interests of K-12 students studying music. The program is designed to assist individuals in acquiring knowledge and developing skills within a learning environment focused on active involvement and integrated learning activities.

Careers

A degree in music education prepares students for professional success as music teachers as well as graduate study. Recent graduates of Meredith’s music program have gone on to become private and public music teachers, both in North Carolina and across the country.

General requirements

Complete fully and return the Meredith College application for admission, along with the $40 application fee.

Have the appropriate school official(s) forward an official copy of the secondary-school record, complete with a listing of courses taken, grades obtained, credit received and rank in class; college or university transcript(s) if the student has taken any advanced work

If the student’s native language or primary language of instruction is English, take the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) of The College Board.

Send a school official recommendation and an academic teacher recommendation.

Students who are submitting university transcripts must also provide an independent course-by-course evaluation
