Overview

Health and Physical Education teachers are in an ideal position to help tackle the nation's growing problem with obesity and its associated health risks, especially among school-age youth. After successful completion of all major requirements in ESS and the professional education program, including a semester of student teaching, students are qualified for licensure to teach at all levels (K-12) in North Carolina and many other states.

Currently, 100% of Meredith College ESS graduates with health and physical education licensure have secured a job in teaching or obtained a graduate school assistantship their first year out of college.

General requirements

Complete fully and return the Meredith College application for admission, along with the $40 application fee.

Have the appropriate school official(s) forward an official copy of the secondary-school record, complete with a listing of courses taken, grades obtained, credit received and rank in class; college or university transcript(s) if the student has taken any advanced work

If the student’s native language or primary language of instruction is English, take the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) of The College Board.

Send a school official recommendation and an academic teacher recommendation.

Students who are submitting university transcripts must also provide an independent course-by-course evaluation
