The primary goal of the major is to train majors in a systems approach to scientific problems in general and problems of global change in particular. By exposing students to the problems of understanding, measuring, and predicting the consequences of global change, and by providing them with field-based research experiences at an early point in their academic careers, we hope to stimulate an interest in these young scientists in pursuing research-oriented career paths.
