Overview
The Nursing program of Georgia College has been preparing professional registered nurses to meet health care needs for over 25 years. Building upon Georgia College's strong liberal arts foundation, the School of Nursing boasts a competitive first-time pass rate of over 96% on the national licensure exam. Students in the BSN program are educated to care for individuals holistically in an ever-changing healthcare system and emerge as leaders in the field of nursing. The program is built on a two-year core curriculum of Liberal Arts and Sciences, which provides the student with a knowledge base for personal growth and professional development. Liberal arts preparation incorporates concepts and theories from the humanities and the natural, social, and behavioral sciences.
The undergraduate nursing program is designed to prepare students for a rewarding career as a registered nurse. Upon successful completion of this program, the unlicensed graduate is eligible to apply for licensure as a registered professional nurse by examination (NCLEX-RN). Approval for admission to the licensing examination and subsequent licensure of qualified applicants is granted by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
Registered nurse graduates of the BSN program are qualified for employment in a wide variety of settings and roles. Additionally, students are prepared to enter a variety of graduate programs to continue their education. Several are offered at Georgia College including the Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator, and Doctorate of Nursing Practice programs.
Careers
Graduates earning a BSN and passing the national licensure examination have many career opportunities. Examples of possible career settings include hospitals, clinics, health departments, schools, and industrial health centers. Within these settings, RN's are employed in diverse roles in patient care areas, leadership, case management and education.
Obtaining a BSN degree also places the graduate at an optimal position to enter graduate school. Post graduate nursing programs are available across the nation in many specialties such as family health, anesthesia, women's health, pediatrics, nursing education and psychiatric nursing. Georgia College is proud to offer several graduate programs for the baccalaureate prepared nurse including the Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator, and Doctorate of Nursing Practice programs.
