Overview

The Art Education program at Claflin University is designed to equip students with a comprehensive teaching education as well as certification to teach Kindergarten through 12th grade in the state of South Carolina.

Key Features

Like all Claflin University students, students majoring in Art Education will start with general education requirements, which includes history, communications, science, the humanities and philosophy. Art Education coursework begins during the first year of study.

As a Claflin Art student, you'll have access to many experiential learning options, such as research projects, mentorship connections, regional museum travel, and international study abroad opportunities. You can join a variety of on-campus clubs and organizations, including the Department's own Art Club.

They encourage students to display their work at annual art exhibitions, both on- and off-campus, and to participate in industry conferences, so there's always an opportunity to learn, grow and share your creativity at Claflin.

Careers and Outcomes

Students can become certified to teach in a K-12 school system, or go on to graduate school to earn a master's degree in art education and/or other related fields. With the master's a graduate can teach on the university level, and/or become a corporate trainer, online educator, arts administrator, etc.

Art Education is evolving on a global scale and becoming increasingly technological, multicultural and interdisciplinary in nature. They've incorporated digital media courses into the curriculum to ensure the graduates are fully prepared and competitive in the creative environment in which they work.

A $65 application fee in U.S. Dollars should be sent in the form of a money order or certified check, made payable to Claflin University. Cash should not be sent.

You must submit official certificates and/or final secondary school records, university transcripts and mark sheets with official translations if the document is in another language.

They require official results from the SAT or ACT tests for regular degree-seeking students.

Scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Test Systems (IELTS) are required for applicants whose native language is not English.
