Key Features
The Strategic Communication major examines the essential role communication plays in the development and maintenance of identities, relationships, groups, societies, organizations and cultures.
The major provides the opportunity to study the history, theory, and practice of a core pillar of the liberal arts. Additionally, students will learn to engage theory, employ empirical study, and conduct critical analysis of communication phenomena.
The Strategic Communication major provides students the opportunity to acquire a firm theoretical background in communication studies and apply those theories in multiple real world settings.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of completing the Strategic Communication program, students will:
- Demonstrate an ability to utilize a range of analytical and/or critical thinking skills relating to a variety of communication theories and communication problems.
- Prepare adequately for careers in public relations, marketing, speech writing, communication consulting, or for admission to graduate or professional schools.
- Effectively apply modern communication practices and media technologies to address real-world clients' problems related to branding, reputation management, and/or internal communication.
- Express themselves effectively (orally and in writing) both generally and in a variety of professional and public contexts.
- Think critically, creatively and independently; evaluate their own work and the work of others for accuracy, fairness, clarity, style and correctness
