Overview
Why Edinboro stands out
Edinboro boasts the oldest - and most reputable - forensic science program in the region. It was developed in consultation with a Forensic Advisory Board that consisted of forensic practitioners from multiple states. As a student in the Forensic Science program from Edinboro University, you will:
- Gain hands-on experience using a variety of state-of-the-art analytical instruments such as infrared and X-ray spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, as well as various types of chromatographs and microscopes.
- Participate in a capstone experience that hones your critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Acquire the multidisciplinary skills you need to pass state civil service exams and enter the workforce as a Forensic Scientist Trainee or Forensic DNA Scientist Trainee.
- Compete for internships in a variety of organizations, including the FBI, local, state and federal forensic laboratories, municipal and state coroner or medical examiner offices, certain industrial organizations, and opportunities funded by the National Science Foundation.
How Edinboro supports you
The multidisciplinary program at Edinboro provides you with a strong foundation in the areas of chemistry, biology and criminal justice.
You'll thrive in small-size lectures and labs taught by faculty, not graduate assistants. They will guide you in the theory and operation of specialized equipment used for quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Along the way, you'll sharpen the oral, written and interpersonal communication skills that you will need when you are called upon as an expert witness.
When you graduate, you will be well-prepared to pursue a graduate degree, or to enter the workforce as a forensic science technician, working in labs associated with a federal, state or local police department; medical examiner's office; independent forensic services lab, or the FBI.
