The bachelor of arts in Dance at Shenandoah University is designed for students who are interested in a broad general education while continuing to pursue their dance studies.

Overview

The program is suitable for students preparing for careers in dance history, therapy, kinesiology and library science. An audition is required for entrance into the program. Through a comprehensive curriculum, students develop their ability to improvise and compose dance, use technology for the presentation of dance, and demonstrate dance technique in solo and ensemble performances. Students perform a variety of repertoire in a wide range of settings, and have numerous opportunities to attend diverse public performances and events.

Our Dance program at Shenandoah University offers a wealth of intensive training and performance experiences in a diverse, arts saturated environment while maintaining the close-knit community and “feel” of a dance company.

Careers 

The program offers professional training for a wide variety of contemporary dance careers, including concert performance (contemporary modern and jazz companies), commercial work (including Broadway, touring, cruise lines and video/film) and studio teaching.  The discipline and creative problem-solving skills readily transfer to a variety of careers related to the performing arts, including promotion, marketing and teaching. Students are also prepared to pursue advanced studies in health and wellness professions (including physical therapy, exercise sciences, massage and fitness training) with an eye toward providing arts-intelligent care for performing arts professionals.

  • Have your former high school send an official transcript directly to Shenandoah University’s Office of Admissions. If an institution is unable to send original documents, you must have an appropriate school official certify that the copy is an official copy with a stamp and signature.
  • All transcripts from non-U.S. institutions must also be submitted for an academic credential evaluation to obtain equivalency information regarding courses, credits, grades and degrees earned. 
  • All applicants must demonstrate English proficiency
  • Please complete the Supplemental Application for International Students and provide financial documentation in order to start the process of obtaining an I-20.
