Overview
This Nursing program at Lake Superior State University prepares students to make judgments and carry out nursing care based on critical thinking and research-based knowledge to facilitate disease prevention, health promotion, health maintenance, health restoration, and rehabilitation. This program offers unique opportunities such as studying abroad and other international clinicals.
Assess patient health problems and needs, develop, and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. May advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Licensing or registration required. Career choices are extensive and are not limited to the list below.
LSSU nurses are employed by all major health systems in Michigan, the U.S. armed services, health services in Ontario, even at the Mayo Clinic. The majority of graduates work worldwide as Registered Nurses (around 90% pass the RN exam the first time) and assume leadership positions in public and private healthcare systems.

General requirements
- Admission is based upon 1) completing a current application in its entirety by the deadline of each semester, 2) successful completion of selected pre-nursing courses, 3) academic achievement, 4) a negative criminal background report, 5) ability to meet physical demands of program with or without accommodation 6) completion of TEAS test with passing score, and 7) verification of CPR training.
- Students will need to provide official transcript(s) evaluated by World Evaluation Service (WES) or Education Credential Evaluators (ECE) or SpanTran on a comprehensive course-by-course basis.
- Proof of English proficiency
- Students are required to purchase health and accident insurance through the university sponsored program – GEOBlue.
- Students must verify the ability to pay for tuition, books, fees and living expenses for one academic year prior to the I-20 form being received.

Scholarships ranging from $500 to $8,000 are available to high school graduates and Michigan community college graduates. Students must be admitted to LSSU by March 1 for consideration.
