Overview

Chemistry is using the knowledge of matter, and how it interacts with other matter, to solve problems that arise in our everyday lives. The program also provides excellent preparation to enter medical or dental school or prepare for a graduate program in the health sciences, as well as other careers in the chemical industry.

The Chemistry program from La Sierra University differs slightly from the Bachelor of Arts in that it requires more units in Chemistry courses. Regardless of degree, all Chemistry and Biochemistry students have the opportunity to conduct undergraduate research alongside their professors, are able to use La Sierra's Smart Lab (which allows students to graph and analyze chemical data and do 3D molecular modeling), take part in hands-on and interactive classes, and get a head start in professional schools thanks to the guidance of their professors.

Career

Employment of chemists and materials scientists is projected to grow 7 percent from 2016 to 2026, on average with other occupations. Many scientists, including chemists, are currently employed in manufacturing industries that are projected to decline. The projected rise in employment will likely be due to an increase in the development of technologies and processes that reduce pollution.
