In your younger years, maybe you were always very active. Or, perhaps as a teen you became interested in organized sports, exercise, or other physical activities.

The truth is, you’ve always seen physical activity as more than child’s play. When you’re active you feel stronger, physically and mentally. Thanks to some great role models, you learned how to be a team player and have a good attitude. Most important, being an active child led to a healthy lifestyle as an adult and instilled your passion for helping others achieve the same.

Through Jacksonville State University’s Health and Physical Education program, you can transform your passion into a degree that will empower you to be an effective physical education teacher in the elementary and high school settings.

Here are just a few of the topics you’ll explore and master as you pursue your Bachelor of Science in Education with a Physical Education major:

Concepts of Wellness— The principles of exercise, stress management, weight control, nutrition, disease and accident/injury prevention;
Exercise Physiology— The study of the effects of exercise on the human body;
21stCentury Learning in HPE— Designed to develop foundational knowledge, including the use of technology, sound planning and instructional practices in today’s educational environment;
Adapted Physical Education— An introductory course that provides an understanding of the nature, behavioral characteristics and motor limitations of various disabilities, and basic skills necessary to prepare meaningful individualized movement experiences of individuals with special needs.
