Overview

Italian Studies from Pepperdine University takes an interdisciplinary approach to teaching the language, history, and culture of the Italian peninsula that prepares students for careers and graduate level study in a wide range of disciplines. A student majoring in Italian develops a high level of proficiency in the spoken and written language while simultaneously acquiring a critical understanding of the Italian culture and its wider influence, past and present.

Graduates with Italian Studies from Pepperdine University will be able to:

Read, comprehend and evaluate content with a difficulty level from simple conversational text to technical, theoretical and literary passages.

Compose written documents that express, explain and analyze Italian culture and literature.

Understand aurally and respond orally to basic conversation, as well as more complex situations.

Describe and critique in written and verbal form Italian cultural manifestations – historical and current – related to belief systems, politics and social justice issues.
