Evergreen is located on the Puget Sound, providing direct campus and community access to a dynamic environment where nature, commerce, and maritime communities unite. The beach has a small shellfish farm and a marine aquarium lab where you can observe organisms in their environment or up close with microscopes.

Whether you're interested in a career in the sciences or you love the seashore, you can learn more about the marine environment and marine organisms, take field trips to the beach, and grow live marine organisms.

At the advanced level, you can pursue marine ecology and invertebrate zoology programs that include hands-on training in lab and field analytical techniques, animal observation, research projects and build upon foundational general biology and general chemistry knowledge to apply to the marine environment.

Choosing What to Take at Evergreen

You’ll choose what you study to earn a Marine Science degree from Evergreen State College that’s meaningful to you. Some students decide their programs as they go, while others chart their course in advance.

Aim for both breadth and depth; explore fields that may be related or that may seem very distant. You'll be surprised at what you discover.

If you're new to college, look for programs where you can gain a foundation, build key skills, and broaden your knowledge (FR only, FR-SO, or FR-SR).
