Overview
As a student majoring in the Public Management program of Stetson University, you will take a mixture of required and elective courses designed to provide an understanding of the political and institutional contexts in which public policies are made and implemented and to inculcate the values and technical and managerial skills necessary for public sector management.
You will develop the qualities of mind and heart to serve as a leader of local communities and the world and not just as an informed citizen. While pursuing a career in public sector management, you will of necessity “embrace leadership in an increasingly complex, interdependent and technological world.” Your broad-based education in the liberal arts will encourage you to pursue work in government or related careers with integrity and social responsibility.
Key Facts
Bringing value to local and regional communities and public entities is a critical function of government, and while the total number of career positions in this field are not large in total numbers, the impact of each of those positions is felt by everyone in the community. Many graduates go on to additional education at the master's level or law school. There are few positions open for graduates with little real experience — less than 15% nationwide ‘— so it will be important for students to work with faculty to make connections and build relationships while still in school.
