Overview

As a major in the Mathematics program of Stetson University in coordination with your advisors, you can construct tracks of study that will lead to a variety of careers and graduate school opportunities in pure and applied mathematics and education. Our program offers formal concentrations in actuarial and financial mathematics, mathematics applied to physics and statistics. Other interdisciplinary applications may also be pursued.

We seek to develop students' abilities to think precisely and creatively about a variety of problems, to write and speak clearly and persuasively about these ideas and to be aware of the intellectual power and significance of mathematical thought and computing in today's technological society.

Growth in this sector is nearly double the overall labor market. At the same time, much of that demand is for mathematic majors with the skills to translate their ability and talent into data analysis, with the largest number of openings in data mining and data analytics (with data scientist positions remaining the hardest to fill). Slightly more than one-third of all positions are filled by candidates with 0-2 years of experience, and hiring crosses many industry sectors, including health, government, business and education.
