Overview

Their work and career paths vary widely and include geology, environmental science, paleontology, economic geology, geophysics, hydrology, oceanography, marine science, atmospheric science, planetary science, meteorology and soil science.

A Geology degree from  State University of New York Potsdam is an excellent foundation for a career in any of these areas.

The Bachelor of Arts degree is ideally suited for students who are pursuing a double major with another B.A. degree field. The core geology courses and electives are the same as for the B.S., but students do not have to take as many cognates (only one year of chemistry and completion of Calculus I) nor do they have to complete a capstone experience.

Key facts:

Our campus is ideally located in the St. Lawrence Valley and adjacent to the Adirondack Mountains. The ancient meta-sedimentary and meta-igneous rocks of the region record a billion years of earth history and provide a natural laboratory for our students. The faculty take advantage of our prime location by taking students out in the field to apply the skills they learn to real-world questions.
