Following is a suggested four-year degree plan. 

Students are encouraged to see their advisor each semester for help with program decisions and enrollment; responsible for reviewing the Program of Study Requirements and the requirements of the Dr. F. M. Canseco School of Nursing; and must meet foreign language and writing intensive course requirements for graduation. 

Admission into the nursing program is highly competitive and completion of prerequisites does not guarantee admission.

English Language Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • Completion of University Core Curriculum and BSN Additional Requirements with a grade of “C” or better and a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Completion of required science courses (Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, Chemistry, Microbiology and Pathophysiology) with a grade of “C” or better and a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale1. 
  • Completion of a lower level WIN course taken from the University Core Curriculum
  • At student’s expense, students must take the HESI Admission Assessment or HESI A2. Scores in the entrance exam will be considered in the admission process.
  • A federal background check will be conducted by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON).
