Why Animal Science at Andrews

  • The Animal Science program of Andrews University prepares you to work with large and small animals in the setting you want. Gain hands-on experience doing an internship at local farms, stables or animal shelters. We even have our own dairy with 1,000+ cows and calves.
  • Some of our alumni pursue vet school, others work in wildlife parks and zoos. We offer small class sizes, field trips and lab experiences with actual animals—opportunities that prepare you for advanced schooling and real life.
  • Our teachers love animals. In our department, all of our teachers work in the fields that they teach. In other words, you’ll learn from those who have “been there, done that” and understand.
  • Why not take your love for animals overseas? The Department of Agriculture conducts study tours to Chile, South Africa and Swaziland where you can practice in global settings and learn from the world’s best in animal science.
  • The demand for professionals in the pet market is soaring. Experts believe there will be a 30–40 percent increase in need for veterinarians and vet techs in the next 10 years.* Unleash your marketability to employers with our animal science degree.

Careers in Animal Science

Animal health careers are a popular choice for our graduates, but there are other options, too! Besides veterinary school or pharmaceutical research, you can pursue jobs in animal production, behavioral therapy, conservation, nutrition, breeding and genetics. Become a zookeeper or wildlife rehabilitator, or work for nonprofit organizations like animal shelters and agriculture development groups.
