All students from the Accounting Program at the Gallaudet University must complete at least one internship in their field that includes 100 hours on the job. The department internship coordinator helps students obtain hands-on positions that provide valuable professional experience and contacts.

All of Gallaudet's recent business and accounting majors are employed (75 percent) or in graduate school (25 percent) within one year of graduation. 

Most accountant and auditor positions require at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Earning a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or other certifications improves job prospects.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.75

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.75 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • Students must be accepted into the Accounting major before taking 300-level or above courses in the Department of Business. 
  • For continuation in the major, a student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 in major and non-major courses. 
  • An accounting major must complete at least one internship in the field and are strongly encouraged to achieve at least one Microsoft Office Specialist certification prior to graduation.
